Use cases/Welcome offers

A personal deadline for every new subscriber

Welcome series run for months, so a fixed date does not work. An evergreen timer starts for each reader the first time they open the email.

How to set it up

About two minutes in the editor.

  1. Choose Evergreen and set the length, for example 48 hours.

  2. Save, then open Embed and pick your email platform. Inboxclock adds the merge tag that identifies each subscriber, such as *|UNIQID|* in Mailchimp.

  3. Paste the code into the first email of your welcome automation.

  4. Optional: put the same timer in the reminder email. The reader sees the same deadline, because it is tied to their first open.

Tips

Get more from it

  • Inboxclock stores only a hash of the merge-tag value, never the raw email address or ID.
  • If your platform can print the signup date, use the start parameter instead, and the countdown starts from signup.
  • Readers who have not opened the email yet always see the full length.

Questions

What if the merge tag is not filled in?

Then the timer cannot tell readers apart, and each open shows the full length. This also happens in your platform’s editor preview, where tags are not replaced.

Can I start the countdown at signup instead of the first open?

Yes. Add ?start= with a date merge tag to the image URL. See the evergreen guide.
